LAS MANTECAS SITE
The Las Mantecas enclave of the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife is located in La Laguna and is aimed at turning Tenerife into a reference centre for innovation and entrepreneurship. It is a modern infrastructure of 59,000 m2 (including an annexed urban park) which includes an annexed urban park and two buildings that will serve as headquarters for the execution of research, technological development and innovation projects, especially related to nanotechnology, sustainability and astrophysics.
This site has two specialised buildings:
IACtec
IACtec, a technology centre linked to the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), which will receive 454,463.87 euros. It focuses on astrophysics, space and scientific instrumentation for sectors such as medicine, security and the environment. It develops research programmes, mainly in the field of technologies for capturing and processing light and electromagnetic waves in general. It allows technological and business cooperation to take advantage of the knowledge accumulated by the IAC in the development of advanced scientific instrumentation, while contributing to industrial development and the commercialisation of products with high added value in the Canary Islands.
It is a Technology Centre of the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife linked to the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), which focuses its activity on astrophysics, space and scientific instrumentation for sectors such as medicine, security and the environment. It develops transferable R&D projects, mainly in the field of technologies for capturing and processing light and electromagnetic waves in general.
It allows technological and business cooperation to take advantage of the IAC’s knowledge in the development of advanced scientific instrumentation while contributing to industrial development and the commercialisation of high added-value products in the Canary Islands.
IACtec is the space for technological and business cooperation of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), whose mission is to develop an innovative ecosystem in the Canary Islands for the transfer of high technology between the public sector and companies, taking advantage of the scientific and technological capital of the IAC.
IACtec provides an accessible environment with abundant human, scientific, technological and financial resources: the ideal space for companies and institutions with a vocation for R&D to collaborate and develop new partnerships and innovative projects.
IACtec is created as a key strategic environment for the development of talent and a dynamic and innovative productive fabric in the Canary Islands and Spain.
NanoTEC
NanoTEC, a science and technology centre dedicated to understanding the behaviour of new multifunctional materials at various scales. This centre is made up of three modules: Nanomac, for R&D&I activities related to nanotechnology, advanced materials, energy and water; Sostiene, which will focus on sustainability, the environment and climate change; and a third module of spaces for the promotion of synergies.
A science and technology centre dedicated to understanding the behaviour of new multifunctional materials at various scales. Its objective is the preservation of water resources and the fight against pollution in various sectors such as industry, agriculture, urban planning, air pollution, water pollution, wastewater recycling, climate change and environmental health. It is made up of three modules: “Nanomac”, for R&D&I activities related to nanotechnology, advanced materials, energy and water; “Sostiene”, for R&D&I activities in sustainability, the environment and climate change; and a third module of spaces for the promotion of synergies between the two areas of knowledge and R&D.
The Nanotec building consists of a ground floor plus 3 upper floors and a basement. The building has been designed as a large container for laboratories and the premises that serve them.
It is configured as two prismatic pieces that meet at an acute angle and serve to house a large installation courtyard. The building’s communications are resolved by means of two vertical communications cores, arranged at the ends of the container located to the east. On the access floor, there are the facilities rooms and the access to the outdoor car park. The outdoor car park blends into the site, located on the north side of the building. The administrative area and meeting rooms are located in the prismatic eastern part of the building. Pedestrian access to the building is via this area, as the slopes of the development ensure that the ground is at the same level.
On the first and second floors, the laboratories are located, each one of them forming a lozenge, inside the prismatic pieces mentioned above, facing the large installations courtyard. The office and work area is located on the perimeter. Each laboratory suite has its own equipment area. In addition, between the installations courtyard and the corridor that connects the two parts of the building, there is another corridor common to the two sets of laboratories per floor.
On the ground floor, in the southern area, there is the material access, located next to one of the vertical cores, which contains a freight elevator. Through gates it connects to the inner courtyard, where a hoist is used to move the large machinery to the ground floor.
On the third floor, the spaces are divided into three parts: in the first, in the eastern section, the necessary installation machinery will be placed on a trailer; in the second, the central installations yard; and in the third, in the western section, there is a space available for the extension of the laboratories (not yet fitted out). It houses the NanoTec + SOSTIENE Headquarters. This is a Technology Centre, linked to the ULL, in the areas of environment, microbiology, chemical engineering and nanotechnology, aimed at companies in sectors with technological affinity.
